Advisors Moving from Mutal Funds to ETFs

As reported in the WSJ, a new survey by Cogent Research finds that brokers and advisers are moving client funds out of mutual funds and into ETFs.

Survey respondents, which comprised 1,500 brokers and other advisers managing an average of $80 million apiece, expect to reduce their clients’ holdings of mutual funds to 27% in 2011, down from 30% currently, and 35% in 2007.

Mutual funds will continue to grab most investable assets, the survey said, but by 2011, advisers expect clients will allocate 14% of their portfolios to ETFs, up from 8% now, and 5% in 2007.
